Lagos govt cautions students against bully, gangsterism as schools resume

The Lagos State government has called on pupils and students to steer clear of vices such as bullying, drug abuse, and gangsterism as they prepare to resume school for the new academic session.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, made this call in a statement issued on Sunday evening.

Mr. Alli-Balogun urged students to remain curious, focused, and committed to achieving excellence in their studies and other legitimate activities. He emphasized the importance of understanding their purpose for attending school and staying on track to meet their educational goals.

“The state government is committed to providing a safe and conducive environment for learning, and we will continue to support students in achieving their academic and personal objectives,” the commissioner stated.

Teachers and school staff have also been encouraged to deliver optimal service and uphold their roles in shaping the future of the students. The government assured that efforts would be made to ensure their welfare and a supportive working environment.

The commissioner also highlighted the collaborative role of parents and guardians in the educational journey of their children, stressing that successful training requires a joint effort.

However, it appears that many new students in Primary One, JSS1, and SS1 in public schools will not be joining their peers immediately, as their admissions are still pending completion.
