Residents of Abiodun Olajire Street in Ewu-Owa, Gberigbe, Ijede division, Ikorodu, Lagos State, have drawn the attention of the state commissioner for police to the increasing menace and activities of armed robbers in the area.
The residents, in a letter sent to the state police authority and signed by their chairman, Mr Abiodun Olajie, noted that in the last 60 days, Ewu-Owa had witnessed not less than seven major armed robbery/burglary incidents most of which occurred at Abiodun Olajire Street; and subsequently reported at Ijede Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijede.
According to the letter, the community recorded the first robbery case since Abiodun Olajire Street has remained a major link to Gberigbe due to deplorable Gberigbe Road on June 24, at about 12. 00a.m – 1.00a.m.
They stated that Ewu-Owa had been known to be peaceful until when Abiodun Olajire Street became a major link road to Gberigbe.
“Since our street is one of the major links to Gberigbe, and as part of our own little efforts to confront the incessant attacks on our street, we have engaged the services of Agbekoya Security Outfit.
“Further to this sir, two gates have just been constructed and installed on the two entrances to the street which is now been closed between 11. 00 p.m and 5.00 a.m. while each gate is manned by security guards,” the letter stated.
They urged the state police authority to provide them with special security patrol due to the heavy traffic experiencing in the area as a result of the deplorable state of Gberigbe road through the One-folds bus stop
They also asked for enforcement/banning of Motor-cycle (Okada) in the street from 7. 00 p.m to 7.00 a.m.
“We are requesting immediate stoppage or banning of activities of touts that extorts motorist and bikes at the entrance of the street (Abiodun Olajire Street) as they too are Constituting nuisance and could cause a security threat to the area,” the letter stated
