Lagos Assembly commences debate on 2020 budget

The Lagos House of Assembly has commenced debate on the 2020 budget earlier presented to it by the Lagos state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The 2020 budget of N1.071 trillion was read the second time on the floor by the Clerk of the House following a motion to that effect by the Majority Leader, Hon Sanai Agunbiade.

The House commended the governor for producing such a laudable document.

It said that the budget would better the living standard of Lagosians if the budget is properly and carefully implemented.

Earlier speaking, Member representing Ibeju Lekki 1, Hon. Fatai Mojeed said that Sanwo-Olu should be commended for the content of the budget.

Fatai added that the proposed revenue is achievable as the state is yet to tap revenue from several informal sectors.

Another member representing Oshodi/Isolo 2, Hon. Jude Idimogu lamented at how the budget can be funded.

He said the budget estimate is a projection but that it should be a realistic one.

Idimogu added that the agencies have increased their revenue target but did not tell the House on how they would achieve it.

In his ruling, The Speaker, Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa, however, referred the budget to the House Committee on Economic Planning and Finance to be able to look at it and report to the House in six weeks time.

Obasa urged his colleagues to support the governor to be able to achieve the aim of the budget.
