Lagos APC urges security agencies to investigate violence during polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state has urged the police and other security agencies to investigate and bring to justice culprits responsible for pockets of violence that allegedly characterised the conduct of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the State on Saturday.

During the conduct of the exercise, pockets of violence, thuggery and ballot snatching were reported in Okota, Eti-Osa and other areas across the state.

It was alleged that the attackers were thugs sympathetic to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state.

Reacting to the allegations, the Spokesman of the party, Hon. Seye Oladejo, said rather than banter allegations, security agencies should be allowed to carry out their investigations and bring the culprits to book.

He said, “We also reportedly pockets of violence in a number of places and we also saw some people who came out with dogs chasing voters all over the place.

It will be difficult to place the source of violence as we speak.

Without necessarily pre-empting the security agency, I think it better we allow them to carry out their investigation and issue statements and bring the culprits to book.

That is our position for now but largely the election has been peaceful with a large turnout.

A good number of people have cast their votes peacefully and the counting process has commenced.

We want to commend all Lagosians who came out to exercise their franchise and we hope at the end of the day our party, the APC as expected will emerge victorious.”
