Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, hosted the seventh edition of Gbenga Adeyinka’s Laffmattazz on Easter Sunday and those who attended the event would not forget in a hurry the jaw-dropping moments they had while the show lasted.
Held at the Hall of Grace of Jogor Centre, the event promised to have 25 acts on stage for the show and yes, it delivered. No fewer than 30 artistes-comedians and musicians were in their best elements to add fun to the show that attracted top dignitaries from all walks of life.
From the comedians, who came with bags full of jokes that cracked up the people for hours to the musicians, who kept the people on their feet as they dished out songs, it was indeed an afternoon that snowballed into night with laughter, music, dance and fun.
The people had expected more from the host, Gbenga Adeyinka, and he was up to the task. Every act that mounted the stage delivered on purpose. As of 2:00 p: m, the hall was already full. The smiles on the faces of the audience suggested that they had come to have the fun. It was not just about the fun for some of them, it was more about the feeling that Ibadan now gives them entertainment they had long to have.
This deep-seated yearning for entertainment was said to have motivated Adeyinka to bring the show to Ibadan for the first time in 2011. From then till now, the show has redefined the phase of entertainment shows in the capital city and has served has platform for many up and coming acts, who craved entertainment as their means of livelihood.
At this year’s edition, the rookie comedians prepared the stage for the established ones. Comedian Apple, Doctor Frick, Mc Rapping Daddy, 13th Disciple, Karrot, Mallam among others thrilled the audience before they made way for Kennyblaq, who illustrated reason why he’s currently one of the most talked about comedians in the country. He was not the only comedian that thrilled the audience as there was Mc Tagwaye,
The shows had many high points, but the biggest one came when Dr Sid took to the stage to perform. He was the only Marvin artiste billed to perform but he was later joined on stage by Tiwa Savage, and the audience went wild. Savage literally sent the stage on fire with her energetic stage prowess. Little wonder they call her, the stage queen.
After Savage’s performance, the people yearned for more, and Adeyinka introduced the big acts of the night in the music category. They were Harrysong, Idris AbdulKareem, Kcee, Sound Sultan, Capital FEMI,. They performed to the amusement of their fans.
That was not all. There was still Sir Shina Peters at the back stage. The show was almost nearing an end and the people wanted to see the 777 crooner on stage even if his performance wouldn’t last for five minutes. He would later storm the stage rekindled people’s love for Juju music.
The next stop for the show is Akure, the Ondo State capital on June 12, and the host, Adeyinka, has promised nothing short of excitement.
