In 2016, when Gbenga Adeyinka was rounding off the year’s edition of his comedy and music show, Laffmatazz, a brand that has continued to provide entertainment through different media, there was only one message for the excited audience that day, and it was: “We are coming back next year with a bigger and stronger brand that would change the face of entertainment”.
One year has passed and Laffmatazz 2017 edition is returning in style with the host cities-Ibadan, Abeokuta, Akure and Ilorin getting ready for another season of laughter, dance and of course, music.
With the next tour ready to kick off in Ibadan on Easter Sunday, the people are already sharing their expectaions of the event through many social media platforms. Abeokuta, Akure and Ilorin will also have a feel of what ‘Adeyinka and friends’ has got in store this season.
Seven years ago, Adeyinka left Lagos State, regarded as the hub of entertainment for Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, which is arguably known as the origin of entertainment in the country. The reason for this is not far fetched, especially when one considers Baba Sala, Ajimajasan and others who poineered comedy in the city many years back, it will be safe to say that Ibadan has come a long way with comedy.
Little wonder, Adeyinka described his decision to move his comedy show to Ibadan as one that was borne out of leaving the virtual space and bringing comedy in its raw form to the people of Western Nigeria.
At that time, Ibadan and other cities in the South West were untapped goldmine with a deap-seated yearning and love for raw entertainment. Almost seven years after taking that decision, Adeyinka has been counting his blessings and sharing happiness with many families, especially the youth.
Laffmatazz, which has become popular among many entertainment lovers has paraded top Nigeria entertainers, especially in music, comedy and theatre, and this year will not be an exception.
According to Adeyinka, talks are ongoing with top artistes and corporate sponsors to make the Season 7 of the event bigger than previous editions.
