A shocking incident of ATM card swapping was captured on CCTV in Anambra State.
A young woman took advantage of an elderly, visually impaired woman, swapping her ATM card and emptying her account within minutes.
The incident occurred at an ATM location in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area.
The elderly woman, a widow, had visited the ATM to withdraw cash. Due to her visual impairment, she struggled to operate the machine.
A bystander, a woman wearing a red top and black trousers, offered to assist the widow.
However, in the process, she swapped the widow’s ATM card with a fake, expired card, having already obtained the PIN. The woman then left the scene, leaving the widow unaware of the swap.
Shortly after, the widow began receiving debit alerts on her phone.
A 42-second CCTV footage of the incident has been circulating on social media, corroborating the events.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident highlights the need for vigilance and caution when using ATMs, especially for vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and those with disabilities.
