Lack of emotional quotient, bane of Godly society—Pastor Alakija

Kidnapping, robbery and money for sex syndrome, among other ills in our society today are as a result of lack of emotional quotient in the youths, Pastor Oluseyi Abiodun Alakija has said.

He was speaking while delivering his keynote address as the Guest Speaker at the 17th Valedictory Service for the class of Divine Grace of the Christ the Redeemer’s College, Christhill, Konigbagbe-Sagamu, Ogun State last Sunday,  at the college’s Raven Place.

Alakija, who spoke on the theme, The Place of Emotional Quotient (EQ) in the Survival of University Entrants, emphasised the need for youths to take emotional quotient seriously, saying lack of it is the result of social vices like, sudden satanic appetite for wealth and power thereby leading to enhanced kidnapping and increased ritual killings in our society.

Accordingly, he stressed the need for young people to consciously be aware of the concept called emotional quotient and its relevance at this particular point in the lives of young people in the country.

“Lack of emotional quotient among the youths are the resultant worsening security situations in our country, i.e. security officers being paid to bring undergraduates for illicit sex, sometimes they supervise or part of syndicates that cover it up.

Earlier, the college’s Principal, Pastor Antoinette Omo-Osagie, said another school year had come with the tradition of letting another set of children leave the cocoon of secondary school education. While congratulating the class of Divine Grace, she said they have a special legacy to uphold which she said is excellence.

She particularly praised the set, saying it was one of them who scored  the highest score in just-concluded UTME examination in the country with a score of 358. She said they also able to add something substantial to the Health Centre in the community which was started by previous graduants of the college.

Perhaps, the highest point of the event was the appearance of Pastor (Mrs) Folu Adeboye, who said her visits to the college were rare, but that she is always in the know about the activities of the school.

She heaped praises on the principal and the entire staff members for the role in the upward swing of the college, while she also prayed for the graduating students to always meet the mercies of the Lord Jesus Christ wherever they find themselves.
