LABOUR unions under the aegis of United Labour Congress of Nigeria  (ULC), Nigerian Union of Railway Workers (NUR) and the Private Telecommunication and Communications Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PTECSSAN) have reiterated their commitment to improved workers welfare despite the imminent economic challenges.

Speaking during the launching of website for PTECSSAN, the national President of ULC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, assured the workers that though the economic conditions may be tough, his union will continue to promote improved welfare packages for its members.

He, however, commended PTECSSAN for what he called a laudable approach it took, saying the telecom sector is one of the strongest in the economy.

According to him, “there must be a special agreement between the union and the employers or else, the relationship will not work. You will have thousands of members, but it won’t reflect in the monies generated’’.

Also, the National President of PTECSSAN, Comrade Oladapo Sunday Moses, said: “PTECSSAN is dedicated to ensuring that we take care of all of our members and ensure that all the fundamental working rights are met and exceeded. We are committed to providing you with top notch legal support. Each engagement will benefit from our wealth of expertise. We will approach every organisation with a focus on integrity, advocacy, and understanding. We will fight for you.

“We have meticulously brought together seasoned trade unionists, with several years of experience in labour activism and capacity working as our engine room,  to confront daunting challenges facing workers in private telecommunications and communications organisations as a whole.”

In his remarks, the Secretary General of NUR, Comrade Segun Esan, urged all unions to patronise the telecommunication union on ICT issues in order to champion the affairs of labour movement.

He said: “It is a new development and it should not be least expected, based on their expertise and proficiency.
