Kwara women want more inclusion in cabinet

Published by

A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Hajia Aisha Ahman-Pategi, has charged Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq to have more women in his cabinet in order to engage them effectively in the process of policymaking.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin at an iftar organised for women in Kwara State to discuss challenges confronting them and train them on how to accept their roles in the way nature has endowed, Hajia Ahman-Pategi, who is the convener of a woman group, ‘The Original Women’ , stressed the need for the new administration in the state to empower women economically.

She advocated the appointment of more women into various political positions in the new administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to enable them to contribute their quotas to the growth and development of the society

Hajia Ahman-Pategi also called for capacity building for women in the state to enable them to tackle multifaceted challenges facing them and reduce poverty in the society.

According to her, women in the state are struggling and they were marginalized, saying that society will be better if they are properly engaged.

“Kwara women are suffering, women are the bedrock of the society, if they get it right, society will get it right because they are the one that raises the future leaders. I am not against women being in the position of power, a woman can aspire to be governor or president but they must accept their roles by nature by standing by men, it shouldn’t be about struggling with men.”

Hajia Ahman-Pategi stressed the need to have a paradigm shift in the state by changing women’s perspective, ensuring accurate thinking and information for women for them to look into the same direction of changing the society for better and raising the future leaders of the country in the best way.

Speaking on the rationale behind the establishment of ‘The Original Women’, the Convener explained that it was aimed at bringing women together to discuss the root of challenges facing them and address them to raise the true leaders of the country.

“The rationale behind the establishment of ‘The Original Women’ is to bring women together to rub minds and find solutions to women challenges. Because each time women gathered they are always discussing their problems, home in shambles, relationship challenges. So there is a need to sit down to think about how it can be solved.”

“There is no woman one meet that won’t have a story to tell and the worst thing is that women are their own problem because they create a problem with other women. Women are marginalised and our voices are not heard. Why is it like that is because more negative things are being discussed in women gathering that positive,” Hajia Ahman-Pategi noted.

Hajia Ahman-Pategi, therefore, charged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara state to have more women in his cabinet in order to engage them effectively in the process of policymaking.

Also speaking, the Co-Convener of the forum, Funmi Adefilo Osiegbu, stressed the need for women to return to the drawing board to raise the family in a proper way, support their husbands and be part of policy making to have a better society.
