Kwara women cassava farmers underdo capacity building

No fewer than 40 participants from Kwara North Senatorial District of Kwara State took part in the capacity building of women in cassava value chain development organised by the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) in pursuance of her mandate in collaboration with KC Donewell Ltd.

The one-week programme sponsored by the Federal Government through Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is aimed at empowering the women to harness opportunities along the cassava value chain.

Executive Director, ARMTI, Dr Olufemi Oladunni, said the programme was designed to empower women in business development, to enhance participants’ competence in processing cassava produce.

He affirmed the training had the capability to impact useful knowledge and encouraged entrepreneurship to boost the nation’s economy.

Oladunni further admonished the participants to actively participate in all activities as directed and tutored by the facilitators, as these would engender self-sufficiency and independence.

Lead consultant, KC Donewell Ltd, Mr Kadiri Adelaja said the programme was borne out of dire need of government’s desire to equip women of Kwara North Senatorial District with relevant skills in cassava processing business, which was needed to drive and transform Agriculture to an attainable level of excellence and sustainability in Nigeria.

Participants were lectured on understanding the basic concept of Agriprenuership and farming as a business, post-harvest handling of cassava root tubers, farm record keeping using mobile application, and market analysis and linkages.

This training was also followed by field practicum to enhance the capacity of the participants.

Some of the participants who spoke after the training lauded the organisers for the platform created to further enhance their skills in cassava processing business.
