A seven-year-old boy, identified as Abdul-Haayi from Yaa-Lateef House on Tinu Street in the Akerebiata area of Ilorin, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, reportedly fell into a domestic well and tragically did not survive.
According to the State Fire Service, this heartbreaking incident occurred on a Monday evening at approximately 5:28 PM when the fire brigade received a telephone call from a resident, Mr Idowu, in the neighbourhood.
Hakeem Adekunle, the head of the Department of Media and Publicity for the Fire Service, explained that the young victim had gone to fetch water from the well when one of his legs suddenly slipped off the ground, causing him to fall into the well while trying to retrieve the water.
The firemen managed to recover the boy’s lifeless body from the well and later handed it over to a family member, Mr Yussuf.
Consequently, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, expressed his sorrow over the incident and urged the general public to exercise greater caution in their day-to-day activities. He also implored them to refrain from sending underage children to fetch water from domestic wells.
