Against views in some quarters, the governorship aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kwara State, Engr Sunday Babalola, has noted that votes do count, just as he urged Nigerians to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) to exercise their franchise.
Speaking in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state during his declaration of interest for the governorship ticket in the 2023 general elections, Babalola, said that, “if votes don’t count, some bad elements will not be stealing ballot boxes during elections.”
“So, votes really do count. Go and get your PVC. For my immediate supporters, go out there and campaign vigorously for the victory of the Social Democratic Party”, he said.
Babalola, who said that he was contesting the governorship seat to make a difference in governance, added that, “the suffering of the people, poor infrastructure, insecurity in the state, among others are the reasons for intention to run in the 2023 governorship elections.”
He said if emerged as the governor of the state, he would put in place a government of the people by the people and for the people.
“We are going to touch every community, know their needs and prioritize those needs. We are also going to do some revenue drive for us to have enough resources and close all financial leakages. We will also make the education sector better.
“We are going to make farming easy for people. We are going to return to mechanised farming. In 2022, we are still farming with hoes and doing things the way they did in the 19th Century,” he said.
Also speaking, the SDP Women Leader, Mrs Olajumoke Oyewole, pledged the support for women in the party, urging the governorship aspirant to give women their dues in form of women empowerment.
The youth leader, Mr James Adeboye, called on the governorship aspirant to carry the youth along in his campaign activities in order to record huge success.
