Kwara plans low key 50 anniversary celebration

Looking back at 50 years of its existence, the Kwara State government has said that the state has come of age and thus the golden jubilee celebration deserves a significant mark for the present generation and those unborn.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday on activities to commemorate the creation of the state, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Isiaka Gold, said that the state had encountered various difficulties and recorded marvellous achievements in the past 50 years.

The state government, which unveiled logo and theme for the golden jubilee celebration, titled, “Celebrating Harmony, Shaping the Future” for the golden jubilee celebration, said the anniversary celebration would start with a prayer session tagged, ‘Special Juma’at Prayer’ on Friday, May 19, 2017, and followed by an interdenominational church service on Sunday.

The SSG, who said that the celebration would be low-keyed,  highlighted other programmes set aside for the celebration to include launching of free eye glasses tagged ‘Jigi Maigida’, lecture series on issues germane to governance of Kwara State, special command stage play, visit to motherless babies’ home, and to the prisons.

He said that the anniversary celebration would also feature commissioning of completed projects and ground breaking of new ones by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The SSG also said that the celebration would be brought to a formal close with luncheon and award night where 50 distinguished individuals who had excelled in their different fields of endeavour would be honoured.

Speaking on the anniversary theme, Alhaji Gold said the theme reflects “how far we have come as a people and our determination to define a solid, prosperous and sustainable future for current and future generations of Kwarans.”

He therefore, called on citizens and friends of the State including the media to join the government in marking the celebration.
