Kwara state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that no one outside the political party provided any form of financial support towards prosecution of the just concluded local government elections in the state.
In a statement by the state publicity secretary of the opposition party, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party said that there was no record of financial support from one Engineer Kale Kawu to the party for prosecution of the last council elections.
The political party, which said that Engineer Kale Kawu is not yet a member of the party, also debunked a publication by an online medium attributing an appreciation message to a forum, “PDP Grassroots Movement”.
“This forum is non-existent, and the claims therein, particularly suggesting that one engineer, Kale Kawu, provided financial donations for the recently concluded local government elections, are entirely baseless”.
It also advised the current administration in the state and its people to settle their possible differences within themselves without dragging the PDP into such.
“It is important to note that we maintain detailed records of all our stakeholders who provided financial or logistical support to our candidates, many of whom proudly declared their contributions on social media.
“It is important to clarify that there is no record of Engineer Kale Kawu offering any such support to the PDP or its candidates, whether for chairmanship or councillorship positions, during the elections.”.
The PDP, which said it discovered a recently created WhatsApp group by certain individuals claiming to mobilise for Engineer Kale Kawu within the party, added that the group had been adding PDP members into the group and promising N40,000 in exchange for posting false testimonies on social media.
“We strongly distance ourselves from these impostors and urge all PDP members and supporters to avoid any dealings with any deceitful individuals. We will not allow our party to be manipulated into advancing the selfish agendas of external actors.
“As a party, we hold Engineer Kale Kawu, just like other progress-loving Kwarans, in high esteem and as a traditional title holder in the Ilorin Emirate, a consummate public servant and a philanthropist with a track record of positively impacting the lives of many Kwara indigenes.
“We, therefore, call on all members of the public, as well as our loyal party supporters, to disregard the false narratives being circulated.
“While the PDP maintains an open-door policy and would gladly welcome Engineer Kale Kawu if he chooses to join our party, the reality is that at this moment, he is not currently a member, and there is no affiliation between him and our party at any level in Kwara state.
