Kwara LG poll: Police read riot act to trouble makers

KWARA state police command has threatened to deal decisively with troublemakers irrespective of political status during and after the November 18 local government elections in the state.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday after a visit to the state independent electoral commission, the police boss, Lawan Ado, advised political class not to engage in acts that could heat up the polity.

The police commissioner, who urged the general public to be law abiding and peaceful during the election, said that their peaceful conduct would ensure hitch-free and successful poll.

He also said that arrangement for the conduct of the election was in top gear, adding that the command was prepared for the council poll, while he said that all men and officers in the command would be deployed for the election.

Also speaking, the chairman of the state independent electoral commission, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajidagba, called for support of security agencies in the state, promising to look into request of logistics by the police command.

Meanwhile, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state has flagged off the local government election campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilorin on Wednesday, with a charge to the candidates to work hard for their victory and be prepared to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

The flag-off took place at the state secretariat of the party in Ilorin and was attended by supporters of the party across all the 16 local government areas in the state.

The party is presenting 193 councillorship candidates for the 193 wards and 16 chairmanship candidates for the 16 local government councils in the state.

The governor asked the candidates and the party to work assiduously for a total victory at the Poll to prove that the APC is not only the ruling party in the state but also a party that is synonymous with the state.

He said that the party under the leadership of former governor of the state and the incumbent Senate President, Bukola Saraki had been committed to delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state and charged the candidates not to disappoint on this feat if elected.
