Kwara JNC demands release of 2023 promotion letters for workers

Published by

The Joint Kwara State Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) has sought the release of letters of 2023 promotion for deserving workers under state employment without delay.

It also urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to direct the appropriate government establishment to commence the release of the withheld letters for the employees that scaled the hurdles of the promotion exercise.

The council made the call in its resolution reached at the end of its meeting held at the state secretariat of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ilorin, on Tuesday.

This was contained in a statement issued by the state JNC Chairman and Secretary, Comrade Saliu Sulaiman and Comrade Tunde Joseph, respectively.

The council appealed to the state government to slash the new state tax policy by 50 per cent or continue with the old tax rates to mitigate the adverse effects of the lingering economic hardship on workers.

It, however, applauded the state government for the implementation of the new minimum wage, saying that it remains a testimony to the sensitivity of the government to the workers’ welfare.

The JNC commended the governor on the massive projects his administration embarked upon and called for their timely completion.

The statement reads partly, “The JNC meeting reviewed the just concluded minimum wage in the state and acknowledged the sensitivity of the state government regarding the welfare of workers in the state.

“The meeting appraised issues of welfare of its members and appreciated the commitment of government toward workers. However, the council requested the state government to look into outstanding issues in 2025.

“The meeting in session looks critically into the issue of new tax laws that will take effect from January 2025 and wishes to passionately solicit sustainability of the old tax rates or reducing the new tax laws by 50 per cent to give relief to workers as a result of economic hardship mitigating against workers in the country.

“Meeting after considering all efforts and discussion at the negotiations table regarding 2023 unreleased civil servants’ promotion letters, the council is using the medium to call on His Excellency to as a matter of urgency direct the appropriate office to release withheld 2023 promotion letters to deserving workers in the state.”
