Kwara High Court razed by inferno

Kwara state High Court, Ilorin on Tuesday was gutted by fire.

The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the incident, which happened at about 07:33 am, was triggered by an electric power surge.

It was also gathered that the registry department and litigation office were particularly affected by the inferno in the building, which houses 40 offices and three open courtrooms.

Confirming the incident, the fire service spokesperson, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said: “Investigation into the cause of the fire revealed that it was triggered by a power surge, highlighting the importance of electrical safety measures.”.

Describing how his men were able to contain the fire, he recalled: “Working tirelessly, the firefighters skillfully navigated through the burning structure, deploying their expertise and resources to contain and extinguish the fire.

Despite the daunting challenges they faced, the firefighters succeeded in saving the State High Court from complete devastation, preventing what could have been a catastrophic loss.”.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, has issued a statement urging the general public to prioritise safety awareness and precautions in their daily lives.

“This call to action underscores the critical role that vigilance and preparedness play in preventing such tragedies from occurring in the future,” he said.
