The Kwara state government has issued a stern warning to the public against patronizing illegal meat selling points that offer meat at discounted rates.

This caution follows reports of alleged mysterious deaths and slaughtering of approximately 30 cows at a site known as Atere road near the College of Arabic and Islamic Studies (CAILS) area in Ilorin by unidentified individuals.

According to information gathered by the Nigerian Tribune, the Kwara Monitoring Group (KMG) released a statement indicating that over 33 cows were slaughtered and subsequently distributed to butchers for sale after suspicion arose that they had been poisoned and died.

The group said that the incident happened along Atere Road (which leads to Al-Hikma campus) right Inside College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin.

The group, which called the attention of the Commissioner of Environment, Health and the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) for immediate action, said that such a step would prevent the poisoned and dead cows from being sold out to the unsuspecting public.
