Kwara govt launches education for peace, security strategy

Kwara State Government recently launched education for peace and security strategy in schools across the state with a charge on all and sundry to join hands with government to form a common front to build a virile society.

Speaking at a stakeholders meeting organized by the Office of First Lady in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, the state Governor who spoke through the state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in surmounting the present security challenges all over the country.

She further stressed the need to ensure peace and security of students in all schools across the state, explaining that government alone could not shoulder the responsibility and advocating collaborative efforts.

The Commissioner added that all stakeholders including parents, traditional rulers, and community leaders should work in harmony with the Government to strengthen the security of students and teachers in all schools across the state.

She maintained that peace and security are the joint responsibility of the people of the state and not the government alone.

In his opening address Dr Manu Lekunze from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom, said all hands must be on deck to ensure peace and security of students and teachers in all our education institutions.

Manu said the purpose of the program is to provide technical support for the teachers and students on peace and security strategies in all schools.

He also said his establishment would give technical advice to the government on peace and security strategy, disclosing that,160 teachers would be trained on peace and security strategy to move from door to door to train others on peace and security strategy in all schools.

The meeting was well attended by the representative of the First Lady of the state, Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRasaq who was ably represented by the Commissioner for Solid Minerals Dr Afeez Abolore, Members of State Council of Executive, the Emir of Ilorin who was ably represented by the Balogun Alanamu, Dr Usman Atolagbe Jos and other Traditional Rulers, the state PTA Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye, the Chief Security officers, proprietors of Schools, and students across the state.
