Kwara govt bans political rallies, processions

Kwara State government has banned all forms of political street rallies and processions. Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed announced this on Tuesday during a special broadcast on the recent political violence in Ilorin.

The governor said that only political rallies at designated areas with prior notification to the state Police Command would be allowed henceforth.

He also said that perpetrators of recent political violence in Ilorin metropolis would be apprehended and be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He warned that the government would spare no effort in protecting lives and property, urging citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities and movement to the security agencies for prompt action.

Governor Ahmed said that the state has established a Joint Security Task Force during the emergency security council held on Monday.

He maintained that the security agencies are capable and ready to forestall further recurrence of such ugly incident.

The governor tasked politicians to campaign and solicit votes in decent manner and refrain from deploying inciting and divisive rhetoric.

He advised those seeking political leadership to prioritise the lives of those they seek to govern.

The governor assured residents that all constitutional means would be deployed for their safety before, during and after the elections.
