The Kwara state government in partnership with internet search engine, Google and others has trained no fewer than 1,000 youths on digital skills and opportunities.
Speaking at a two-day ‘digital revolution workshop’ in Ilorin on Wednesday, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Youth Empowerment, Alhaji Saka Babatunde, said that the ptigramme was aimed at helping the youths to tap into the opportunities of the digital revolution.
The governor’s aide, who said that the training was expected to afford the participants opportunities to learn intricacies of building an online presence and understand search engine marketing and optimization (SEM and SEO), added that the workshop would enable the beneficiaries to have access to job opportunities in the digital market.
“This revolution workshop is aimed at changing the way our young people think, behave, communicate, work and earn a living; I believe that this digital revolution workshop will be the vanguard to
influence the way the youths resolve conflict, negotiate on sensitive issues, approach healthcare and engage government and relevant stakeholders on economic, social, political and technological developments.
“In essence, my message to you is clear. It is not only the government, politicians, policymakers, economists, analysts or the information communication experts that need to be involved in digital revolution. We are here to ensure that the young ones are productively engaged and involved in the whole process. It is only by engaging you that we can be properly positioned to shape a future and that develops and empowers the youths”, he said.
