Five suspects linked to the brutal killing of Hafsoh Lawal, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, were on Tuesday arraigned before the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, where they all pleaded not guilty to a five-count charge.
The defendants, including the prime suspect, AbdulRahman Bello, are accused of conspiring to murder Lawal, dismembering her remains, and engaging in other grievous acts, including the removal of body parts and the unlawful possession of human parts and blood. The crime reportedly occurred on February 10, 2025.

In addition to the joint charges, Bello is solely charged with raping the deceased, a violation of Section 283 of the Penal Code CAP P4, Laws of Kwara State.
Appearing before Justice Hannah Ajayi, the five accused persons — AbdulRahman Bello, Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Suleiman Muhydeen, Jamiu Uthman, and AbdulRahman Jamiu — maintained their innocence as the charges were read out in court.
The prosecution team was led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Kwara State, Mr Senior Ibrahim. All suspects were represented by legal counsel, with Bello receiving pro bono representation.
Justice Ajayi ordered the remand of the suspects at the Oke Kura correctional facility and adjourned the case to May 7, 2025, for the commencement of trial.
