Kwara elders sign declaration, endorse Buhari, Abdulrazaq

Some elder statesmen and leaders of thought from across Kwara State have endorsed candidature of President Muhammadu Buhari and the state All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, for the coming general elections.

Addressing journalists in Ilorin on Sunday, the statesmen and women said that the state has benefited from the President’s administration, adding that people are in agreement with his agenda to tackle corruption and build a viable country.

The people also said that the state needs a paradigm shift to end years of alleged underdevelopment.

In a communique endorsed by the leaders and read by their spokesman and former Aviation Minister, Aremu Yahya, the people declared support for the second term bid of President Muhammadu Buhari, saying he has done well within the socioeconomic and political realities of the country.

Others are Dr Salihu Ajia; Prof Ibrahim Gambari; Sen Idris Haliru; Engr Umar Shaaba; Amb Nuru Mohammed; Sen Mohammed Ahmed; Hadjia Aminat Ndalolo; Alh/Hon Issa Bio; Alh Busari Alade; Alh Salihu Idris; and Alh Isiaka Jimoh.

The statesmen also said they are backing AbdulRazaq of the APC for the governorship poll, adding that his campaign slogan captures the sociopolitical mood of the people who crave for a new dawn in the state.

“We submit that this endorsement arose from the practical analysis of the political space and its realities. We believe that Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq shares our concerns and value system as a people and he would run a government that would reflect the wishes of our people.

“We call for credible and transparent elections in Kwara and Nigeria as a whole. However, we are worried that some political leaders are trying hard to intimidate the opposition through violence. We, therefore, call on the president and the security chiefs to put their feet down and ensure that our people are protected as they exercise their civic rights.

“We call for security beef up before, during and after the elections. We also urge the civil society/observers to pay good attention to Kwara without being partisan.”
