Kwara Assembly suspends PDP lawmaker

Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker representing Ilorin South Constituency, Jimoh Agboola, for alleged contempt and abuse of privilege.

This is the sequel to a motion without notice moved by the House Leader, Abubakar Olawoyin, during the Tuesday plenary.

In reaction to his suspension, the lawmaker said that the suspension would not stand the test of time, adding that he would make his next line of action known soon.

Agboola, who said that the management of the House had denied him some of his financial entitlement, added that the member of the House that he replaced had been given his own entitlements.

The House leader while leading the debate on the motion said the Assembly is an institution and not an individual and as such must be respected.

Olawoyin accused Agboola of making a disparaging comment about the House, saying that he called on the masses to stage a protest against the government and the House of Assembly on a radio programme.

He regarded such acts at this period of insecurity as unsafe and could lead to chaos.

He described how Agboola disrespected the House as already trending on social media and urged the Speaker to direct investigation into the matter.

A lawmaker representing Isin state constituency, Olumide Awolola Ayokunle said, derogatory language against the House should not be condoned especially when such language is found out to be false.

He urged the House to make proper investigation on the matter before any action could be taken.

Speaker Yakubu Salihu Danladi assured the House of adequate investigation and directed the House Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Judiciary to conduct an investigation on the matter and reports its finding to the House as soon as possible.

He also directed Agboola to seize from attending plenary pending the conclusion of the investigation.
