Kwara Assembly passed 10 bills in 18 months —Spokesman

The Kwara State House of Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker Dr Ali Ahmad, has passed a total of 10 bills since its inauguration 18 months ago.

The Chairman, House Committee on Information,  SocialDevelopment, Tourism , Youth, Sports and Culture, HonourableSaheedPopoola,disclosed this during a weekly interactive session with newsmen on the activities of the House.

He also said another eight bills were on the verge of final passage, as they had passed through Second Reading, while two other bills had just passed through  First Reading.

He said that the 8th legislature, for the first time since the restoration of democracy, initiated two private bills that had passed through Second Reading and assured that the House would not relent in providing a platform for people oriented governance in the state, to further make democracy more meaningful to  average Nigerians.

In his own contribution, a member of the committee, Honourable Adebayo Muhammed,said the House passed a greater number of resolutions that impacted positively on the people of the state and assured that it would not relent in responding promptly to the yearnings of the citizens.

Another member of the Committee, Honourable Victoria Bunmi Afolayan, who explained that constitutionally, the legislature was required to sit for 181 days in a year, said in the first session, the House sat for 243 days and for 93 days in the second session which she said was just in the midway.

She assured that it would continue to take its legislative duty with all seriousness to further enhance good governance in the state, just as she praised the leadership of the House for creating an enabling environment for the members to demonstrate their vibrancy, which according to her, has made the legislature a reference point in the country.
