Kwara APC group kicks against automatic tickets

A group in Kwara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa has kicked against a reported plan by the party to give automatic tickets to serving senators, members of the House of Representatives and others as demanded by some serving politicians in the country.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Monday, deputy chairman of the group, Alhaji Abdullahi Samari, said that giving automatic tickets to serving senators and others would amount to the annihilation of credible candidates and stifling of
participatory democracy.

“President Buhari and our national chairman who are products of effective and functional democracy should not be part of this undemocratic and devilish move,” he said.

He added that APC would record more electoral successes in the state if the national leadership of the party allows some members of the party planning to defect from the party.

“The political situation in Kwara state today is different from what it used to be. Abuja politics, not consciously played with due consideration for the local politics, can affect our party negatively. That was the undoing of a political party in 2015.

“We are coasting to victory and the battle to provide an acceptable and incorruptible platform for Kwarans to contest will be over soon.

The APC group also said that it is confident of the party’s victory in 2019 elections in Kwara state with or without some politicians threatening to defect.

The people, therefore, assured President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC national leadership not to lose sleep over reported defection plans by some politicians in the state.
