Kwara APC alerts security agencies over plot to create party faction

Published by

Leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state has alerted security agencies in the state over an alleged plot by a faction of the party to open a factional party secretariat in Igbaja town in the Ifelodun local government area of the state.

In a statement by the chairman and public relations officer (PRO) of the party in Igbaja Ward I, Alhaji Daud Afolabi and Abdulfatai Abdulkareem, respectively, the party alleged that plans had been concluded to sponsor and commission an alternative APC party secretariat at lle Alaga, opposite lgbaja Motor Park, instead of the officially recognized APC secretariat at lgbaja Market Square, directly opposite Elese’s Palace.

The APC leadership, in a letter written to the state commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified a former ADC chieftain, Hon. Gbenga Oyekunle, as the brain behind the development, saying that the plot aimed to cause faction among the executive members in the party.

“We humbly wish to bring your attention to necessary actions, the attempt of one Hon. Gbenga Oyekunle (aka Gbenga Power Foundation) to create chaos in lgbaja Community by ways of factionalization of the APC Exco members and sponsorship of alternative APC Secretariat at lle Alaga opposite lgbaja Motor Park instead of officially recognized APC Secretariat at lgbaja Market Square, directly opposite Elese’s Palace.

“The said Gbenga Oyekunle, a former ADC chieftain has slated Monday, June 26, 2023, for the commissioning of the alternative APC Secretariat, which he has also dubiously styled an occasion for prayers for the second tenure of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, CON.

“We reliably learnt that the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, and others will be gracing the occasion.

“We want to alert the security agencies that the proposed ceremony is an attempt to cause chaos and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of lgbaja Community.

“For the purpose of emphasis, there is only one APC Exco that worked tirelessly for the success of all the APC candidates in lgbaja Ward 1 in the last elections including gubernatorial and presidential elections respectively.

“We implore the security agencies to save lgbaja community from impending chaos by stopping the ceremony and cause thorough investigations to the activities of those mentioned”.
