Kwara ANRP threatens to sanction governorship candidate

SEVENTY-TWO hours to the March 9 governorship elections, the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) in Kwara State has accused its governorship candidate, Dr Abdulmumin Ajia, of anti-party activities.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, the state chairman of the party, Mr Ade Alabi, also dissociated the party from the reported support given by the party’s flagbearer, Dr Ajia, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the March 9 elections in the State.

It is recalled that Dr Ajia had on Sunday announced his withdrawal from the governorship race and resignation from the ANRP race while giving his support to the governorship candidate of the APC, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq.

Mr Alabi, who said that Ajia had betrayed the ideals which the ANRP stands for, added that the governorship candidate ran away from challenges at the eleventh hour.

He said while Ajia claimed he has resigned from the ANRP, the party was yet to receive his resignation letter.

Alabi hinted that the leadership of the party may soon meet to take appropriate disciplinary action against the governorship candidate.

Also speaking, the deputy governorship candidate of the ANRP, Adebayo Adeleke, who said that politics should not be for personal gains but service to humanity, called on people of the State to vote for the ANRP in the governorship poll and other seats to be contested.

“In line with ethical politics which is one of the fundamental stances of ANRP, I wish to say unequivocally that I am not in support of recent defection, the pledge of alliance or support embarked upon by Dr Abdulmumin Yinka Ajia. It is anti-party, betrayal and running away from the challenge at the eleventh hour.

“I urge all well-meaning Kwarans to come out en masse and vote for ANRP across the board, come March 9, 2019, as the party have ultimate solutions to our common challenges. Politics should not be based on personal gains and interest rather it must always be rooted in service to all and sundry all time.

“We can’t keep playing politics the old way and expect people to take us seriously, the emotions of people who stand by us from the start of this struggle must be encouraged and appreciated.”
