Kwankwaso, Abba don’t belong to authentic NNPP — ex-Spokesperson

A former spokesperson of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Alhaji Musa Nuhu Yankaba, has said that the former Kano state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the incumbent governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, do not belong to the authentic NNPP.

Making this known in an interview with DCL, Yankaba asserted that the faction using the fruit logo represents the original NNPP

Yankaba disclosed that Kwankwaso recently led a group within the party to change its logo to a book symbol, a move he described as illegitimate.

He also referred to a ruling by an Abia State court on November 1, 2024, which recognised Boniface’s faction as the legitimate leadership of the NNPP.

According to him, the court confirmed Boniface as the party’s founder and annulled prior activities, including the logo change and the election of new leaders.

According to Yankaba, this ruling leaves Kwankwaso and Governor Abba without a political party.

“The court’s decision is clear. As it stands, Kwankwaso and Abba do not belong to any political party,” Yankaba added, reaffirming his support for the NNPP with the fruit logo and his position as the Secretary-General of the original NNPP.

He disclosed that, “We have conducted elections at various levels, and we stand with the original NNPP with the fruit logo. We call on everyone, especially those who care about Kano, to return to our party.”

He therefore urged party leaders to unite for the betterment of the NNPP, emphasising that the Kano State government was elected under the original party.

All efforts to get a reaction to the allegation proved abortive, as calls made to the state chairman of the NNPP, Alhaji (Dr), did not go through.

However, a reliable source within the party, who preferred anonymity, said that the allegations were baseless and lacked any iota of truth.

He added that, “The allegations are lies from the pit of hell and lack any substance. We don’t have a problem as far as our party, the NNPP, is concerned.”
