KWACCIMA seeks review of 1978 land use decree

Experts in real estate have called for review of the 1978 Land Use decree, describing it as an impediment to structural design and development in the country.

Speaking at the Kwara Business Awards 2024 organized by the state’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA), one of the experts in real estate business, Mr. Yinka Bolatito Ojo, said that the country has come of age and “far beyond such retrogressive law”.

According to the winner of The Winner of The Real Estate Company of the Year, “the best the present government can do to improve and further develop as well as encourage the real estate and its actors is to review the obnoxious 1978 Land Use decree.”

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Quick Access Macro and Micro Limited regretted that the terrain of operations are too tough for actors in the sector, urging the government and others in authority to ensure the review of the law he described as outdated and draconian.

Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Hezekiah Adedeji, acknowledged that the government has done great work to encourage the business environment in Kwara State, “we just hope that the governor can still do more to ensure further business development”.

He commended the leadership of the Director-General (D-G) of KWACCIMA, Prince Ayo Fagbemi, for taking the chamber to an enviable height, recalling that the event was last held in 2009.

The Vice president of KWACCIMA, Alhaji Yinka Yahaya, had earlier explained that the chamber was poised to ensure that the business environment is conducive for operation.

He noted that the award was to encourage hard work and excellence in the private sector, assuring that the event would henceforth be an uninterrupted annual event.
