This study evaluated the effects of the synergistic mixture of Cyperus esculentus (tiger nuts), Phoenix dactylifera (dates) and Cocos nucifera (coconut) (STCD) on the reproductive hormones in a male rat model, considering their potential synergistic benefits.

The study conducted at the Department of Biochemistry, Rivers State University, involved the preparation of the mixed drink from fresh seeds of tiger nuts (400 g), dates (120 g), and coconut (200 g) procured from the Mile 1 market in Port Harcourt. They were manually blended to a consistent and uniform mixture for daily administration.

According to the study published in the Asian Science Bulletin, an increase in the serum concentration of Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and testosterone was observed, while a decrease in prolactin was observed in the group administered STCD at 200 and 400 mg/kg STCD with values. This suggests that this drink can enhance male sexual health and performance.

The study provided scientific evidence supporting the traditional use of these plants as aphrodisiacs and confirmed that the synergistic ingestion of these extracts can enhance male sexual hormones, which aligns with historical claims about their benefits for sexual health.

Many people prefer natural products, and this could provide an alternative to synthetic medications, which may have side effects.

FSH and LH are hormones critical for sperm and testosterone production, while testosterone is the hormone required for sexual performance and libido. Prolactin levels are beneficial for sexual function, as hyperprolactinaemia is often linked to sexual dysfunction in males.

Regular intake of this mixture showed no apparent adverse effects in rats and boosted male sexual hormones, supporting its potential as a natural enhancer.

The study, which indicated a dose-dependent enhancement of male reproductive hormones by STCD, recommended it for daily intake.

However, they recommended further research to explore the long-term impacts and mechanisms of action of the coconut, dates and tiger nuts mixture. This could lead to more comprehensive insights into how these natural products can be used in treating sexual dysfunction in humans.

By highlighting the potential of these natural extracts to enhance male reproductive health, the study may encourage the development of new, natural health products that could be beneficial for men experiencing sexual dysfunction.
