Letters

Kudos to Ambode

NIGERIANS are used to political office holders turning a deaf ear to their cries over diverse issues both big and small. Indeed, they are used to the fact that many forget how they got into office. But I wish to state that this is not the case with all of them because some politicians listen to the masses.

Governor Akinwumi Ambode is one of those that have proven this and the property owners and landlords of Oladimeji Residents Association, of Jay-Jay Oladimeji Close, Lekki, in Lagos State, Nigeria, can jointly attest to this.

And I, like others, want to laud Governor Ambode and thank him for his timely intervention in saving the lives and properties of residents from a developer who had been threatening lives and flouting the state’s physical planning law.

Though a commendation letter addressed to the state’s Attorney General had been sent to appreciate his timely intervention, I, on behalf of others, want to publicly thank him to serve as example to other office holders.

I would like to commend the prompt positive efforts of the state government and its ministries to the concerns raised in our letter which led to various agencies under the ministry of physical planning coming to investigate, confirm that there is a cause for concern and taking appropriate actions.

I would however still want the government not to take it that the matter is over because the said developer seems not to be ready to take the laid down rules as he seems to have people in authority supporting him.

Before the consequential actions of the state government, the officers of the ministry of physical planning came to the street and met with the residents/property owners and confirmed that the structure we complained about violates the extant physical plans of the state in that, the wrong-doer deliberately broke his back fence to create another gate and exit/access to his building from Jay-Jay Oladimeji Close, thereby blocking other residents’ entrance and consequently endangering the security of the residents of Jay-Jay Oladimeji Close.

And based on our cry, Governor Ambode intervened to save lives and properties to stop any act capable of causing breach of public peace.

As law abiding citizens, we followed due process, despite the deliberate, provocative and unlawful acts of the wrong doers and the thugs positioned by the wrong doer who are threatening with confidence that they are well connected but the government proved to us that it is good to follow the rule of law.

I once again thank the governor for using his good office to ensure equity, justice and fair play known to be the hallmark of his administration in Lagos State.
