It is typical of governments in Nigeria to embark on the so-called “people-oriented projects” which the people would never benefit from.
Governments often embark on these projects knowing full well that they lack the wherewithal to execute them, which is why they are called white elephants. This calls for sober reflection among the political class.
There is an urgent need to check this ugly trend of political robbery so that the electorate’s expectations regarding the dividends of democracy from the ruling class would no longer be the figment of their imaginations.
However, the fear of residents of Ogun State about the will of the present administration in the state led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun to complete all road projects spread across the state may have been allayed by the recent re-mobilisation of contractors to site by the state government.
A lot of people were skeptical that the government could fund and complete its many money-gulping projects scattered across the state in the face of the prevailing economic hardship that seems to be biting harder in the country.
Happily, there seems to be a respite for residents along OGTV-Brewery road, Ojere-Adatan road, Lafenwa-Aiyetoro road, just as contractors have also moved to site at NNPC-Kobape road, flyover bridge at Ijoko, flyover bridge at Agbade, Ilara and Ijoun-Ilase road, to mention but a few.
One can only imagine the value all these projects would add to the economy of the state when completed.
I salute the present administration in the state for the way it has approached the enormous task of rebuilding the state in entirety.
