KolaDaisi University calls for parents’ participation, collaboration

Vice chancellor of KolaDaisi University, Ibadan (KDU-I), Professor Kolade Luke Ayorinde, has pleaded with parents of the school’s students to join hands with the authorities of the institution to train them both morally and academically.

He stated that although KDU is not a faith-based university, it cares about the spiritual well-being of its students by encouraging and supporting free religious activities that do not impinge on the freedom of others.

Professor Ayorinde made the plea while addressing parents at the maiden Parents Consultative Forum meeting of the institution recently.

Charging the parents further on the need for continuous support and collaboration in all ramifications, he said: “We will like to get in touch with you often to give you feedback on your children. It will, therefore, be appreciated if you can ensure that we have your correct phone numbers or e-mail addresses if you desire.”

“We have discovered that some of the students do not include these in the information they provide about you their parents or guardians.”

He added that the university desired to hear from them frequently and to work more closely with each of them now and in the years ahead.

He noted that the university had zero tolerance for cultism, use of narcotics and other dangerous drugs, intimidation, indecent dressing and other vices.

“We have put in place the exit system which we will continue to enforce, and do occasional bed checks in the night to ensure that the students are on campus and where they are supposed to be,” he added.

The registrar, KDU-I, Mrs Omotayo  Ikotun, while taking the responses, observations and comments of the parents enjoined parents to cooperate with the university and work hand in hand in the interest of the future of their children and wards.

At the event, the VC inaugurated the KDU Parents Consultative Forum and a seven-man team member were jointly nominated and constituted by the institution and the parents to form the interim working committee members of the forum.

Speaking on behalf of the interim working committee member was Dr Olusola O. Adesina  who said the idea of setting up a forum, where the management and parents can come together to air their views and see to how they can both work together to move the university forward was a good one and highly commendable.

“The interim working committee members will work together as a team to come up with laudable suggestions on how the university can move forward and address some of the challenges the university is facing to ensure that it moves forward,” Adesina promised.
