Kogi Poly mourns as head of department dies at 47

The Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, is currently in a state of mourning following the untimely demise of Mr Peter Akogu, the Head of the Department of Industrial Design in the School of Art, Design, and Printing.

Mr Akogu, who was 47 years old, passed away suddenly in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the institution and its community deeply saddened by his loss.

He began his journey at the Kogi State Polytechnic as a Higher Instructor on April 4th, 2003, and over the years, he diligently advanced through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Industrial Design.

His dedication and expertise led to his appointment as Head of the Department on November 3rd, 2022.

Originally from Unyi Ogogu Village in Olamaboro Local Government of Kogi State, Mr Akogu’s contributions to the academic community were notable.

In a statement issued by the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Elder Sunday Aiyeetan, the late Mr Akogu was recognised as a distinguished personality, a disciplined academic, and a resourceful team leader.

He was characterised as a devoted and resourceful lecturer whose unwavering commitment to the growth and advancement of the School of Art, Design, and Printing, particularly the Department of Industrial Design, played a pivotal role in transforming the school into a model for nurturing young leaders over the years.

The statement expressed prayers for God’s mercy upon the departed, asking for the forgiveness of any shortcomings and the granting of eternal rest to his soul.

The Polytechnic community also extended its prayers for strength and solace to be granted to his family, friends, well-wishers, associates, and the entire Polytechnic Community as they come to terms with this irreplaceable loss.

Details about the arrangements for his burial will be communicated after consultation with the family.
