Kogi poll: We will restore Kogi’s lost glory ― Wada

The immediate past governor of Kogi state, Capt Idris Wada, has said he is seeking reelection to join hands with like minds and restore the greatness of the state.

He said it was time to rise up and stop the hardship that the people were being subjected to by the present administration in the state.

The former governor stated this in Ijumu local government area during his meet-the-delegates-tour of the area, on Wednesday ahead of the September 3, 2019 primaries of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to him, the present administration in the state had been brought untold hardship that had made life unbearable for the people.

He noted that during his administration civil servants and pensioners did not contemplate suicide, as a result of suffering and poverty, adding that businesses have collapsed while the confluence state has become a shadow of its former self.

Wada said amidst the financial challenges posed by scarce resources during his administration, he was able to pay salaries, gratuities and pension, as and when due.

He added that his administration also provided critical infrastructure for the development of the state

Wada said, “For 45 months of my administration, I made payment of salary and pension my priority and ensured that people were secure as they went about their daily duties.

“I’m on a mission to restore Kogi state to the path of greatness. I’ll provide purposeful leadership if elected. By the grace of God, I’ve served before and as governor, I know where it pinches.”

“This is not a time for Kogi to experiment with governance. The experience of the last few years has taught us a lesson. I’ve taken the challenge so that Kogi can regain its greatness”.

Wada, who promised to negotiate power shift in the state, appealed to delegates from the area to see him as the alternative to good governance, adding that he would build on the past experiences.

The former governor said in spite of the performance of his administration, he was rigged out of office in 2015, pointing out that the PDP would protect its vote in 2019.

In their separate responses, Mr Onimola one of the leaders extolled the qualities of Wada as a very meticulous person, stating that the present happenings in the state have shown that his administration worked for the yearning and aspiration of the people.

In his remarks, former Ijumu Chairman LGA, Elder Owotogbe encouraged Capt Wada to continue in his good works and promised him the support of Ijumu delegates.
