Kogi poll: We are resolute despite PDP primary disruption ― Adoji

Following the gunmen invasion of the venue of the primary election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kogi state, one of the aspirants, Dr Victor Adoji, stated that he was resolute and confident of winning the primary.

Adoji in a statement on Wednesday regretted the attempt to truncate the process, blaming the attack on people he called enemies of democracy.

He said the invasion of the Lokoja Confluence Stadium venue of the primary by hoodlums who shot sporadically was unfortunate and unacceptable.

He alleged that his agents during the election were the target of the attack and were eventually hit by bullets.

Adoji, who commiserated with the victims of the attack, however, said the perpetrators could only temporarily disrupt the process but could not prevent the will of the people from being realised.

The governorship aspirant said, “In the early hours of today, during the ballot-sorting of the PDP gubernatorial primary election in Kogi, the enemies of our democracy came in to disrupt the process. Sporadic shots that left all of us at the mercy of divine intervention. Everyone helplessly scampered for their lives, leaving at least two dead and another two in life-threatening condition.

“Our agent who was particularly targeted is currently treating bullet and assault wounds and so are many others including Captain Joe Agada whose head is currently been held in place by stitches.

“This is an unfortunate and unacceptable development and situates our State and democracy in the realm of war and limitless desire to conquer, to destroy and to kill.

“Let the fear of our winning that motivated your actions haunt you, for the results you feared will still be called and your heads will bow in ignominious shame. You only tested our resolve, strengthened our love and ignited the flames of patriotism. We are still strong”.

Adoji, however, appealed to supporters and well-wishers to remain calm and steadfast as events unfold.
