Kogi NUJ chairman charges practising journalists to be professional

The incumbent Chairman of the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) Comrade Momojimoh Adeiza, has charged practicing Journalists to uphold the ethics of the profession by engaging in activities that Promote the image and practice of the profession.

The Chairman stated this at the Graphic Newspaper palatial office Lokoja when he picked his nomination form for the forthcoming council elections.

Adeiza who noted that the Council has had challenges in actualising its lofty planned programmes as a result of the socio-economic and political situation in the state in the recent past admonished members not to deviate from the calling of Journalism.

He said, despite the unsavory condition of practice in the state, society still expects Journalists to live above board advising them not to soil their names with the behaviors that debase the image of the profession.

He added that the Council has started thinking outside the box to ensure that the welfare and wellbeing of Journalists in the state are enhanced, even as palliative measures have been put in place to meet the needs of some distress members.

The chairman also reiterated the commitment of the council to provide a conducive environment for smooth practicing of the profession, called on the members to reciprocate the gesture by living above board both in characters and sticking to the good taste of Journalism.

He warned them to avoid the temptation of inducement which has the propensity to destroy all that Journalism stands for in the building of a virile and moral based society.

He said from the feedback he has received from members for their stewardship in the last three years in office, he has all the confidence to have a good standing in the election.

He assured Journalists in the state of his readiness to continue to work for the improvement of the welfare of all the members and solicit for their support for his ambition.

The council election is expected to hold on April 2, 2020 during the delegates triennial conference, even as the serving Vice Chairman. Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and Auditor picked their nomination forms.
