The Students of Prince Abubakar Audu University, (PAAU) Anyigba have called on political gladiators to leave the Students out of politics.

The students who slammed the Governorship Candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) Senator Dino Melaye for allegedly describing the State-owned institution as a glorified Secondary School, students admonished the general public not to be misguided by such false information.

Addressing a press conference in Anyigba on Thursday, the President, Student Union Government, (SUG) Prince Abubakar Audu University, (PAAU) Comrade David Monday while reacting to a  viral video credited to  Senator Melaye when he featured on a  program, “Politics Today on Channels television said such comment is unintelligible, maliciously contrived and a vain pursuit of tainted motives.

He stated that calling the University a glorified secondary school can only flow from want of information or deliberate pursuit of unwholesome purpose.

While calling on political gladiators to leave the Students out of politics, the SUG President admonished the general public not to be misguided by such false information.

According to him, such unguarded statement flowing from deficit of knowledge, propelled by improper disposition may have the potency of dragging the hard-earned reputation of the University to disrepute in the eye of the unsuspecting public.

Explaining further, the SUG President said “It could equally cast aspersion on thousands of our graduates working across the globe and others who are pursuing their postgraduate programs in Nigeria and abroad.

“Worse still is the psycho-social effect it may have on our unemployed graduates who are competitively competing for jobs out there,

“A state university that has achieved significantly in training of competent manpower working across the globe with a high pedigree in research and community service would not have achieved such glamorous status by an empty, sudden and spontaneous flight to stardom”.

The SUG President, while noting that, PAAU is amongst the twenty-six (26) Universities in Nigeria that have 100% full accreditation, has over 150 scholars on Professional cadre, with a state-of-the-art library, laboratories, and lecture theatres cannot be a glorified secondary school.
