Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the November 11, 2023, Kogi governorship election, has pledged to reclaim his “stolen mandate” at the Supreme Court.
Ajaka’s statement came after the Court of Appeal in Abuja upheld Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo’s victory as the duly elected Governor of Kogi.
While acknowledging and respecting the Court of Appeal’s decision, Ajaka alleged irregularities and manipulations influenced the outcome of the petition.
Undeterred, Ajaka assured his supporters that this setback would not deter him from fighting for the rights and interests of the people of Kogi State.
The SDP candidate expressed empathy with his supporters’ feelings of disappointment and frustration but urged them to remain steadfast, believing that justice would prevail at the Supreme Court.
“Let us use this setback as fuel to propel us forward, to ignite a fire within us that will burn even brighter. Our stolen mandate will be reclaimed, and the will of the people will prevail.
“Together, we shall overcome this temporary setback and emerge victorious. Let us stand tall, united, and unwavering in our pursuit of justice. The journey may be arduous, but the destination will be worth it,” he said.
The battle for Kogi’s governorship continues, with Ajaka determined to pursue his mandate to the highest court in the land.
