Kogi guber: Forum roots for SDP candidate, Muritala Ajaka

As the preparations for the forthcoming Gubernatorial election in Kogi State hots up, the Forum of former members of the State House of Assembly across the three Senatorial Districts of the State has declared total support for the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Muritala Ajaka, in the election, saying that the move was to restore true democracy in the state

Addressing a World Press Conference in Abuja, the Representative of the Forum, Hon. Simon Atadoga, explained that the members decided to adopt Ajaka because the state “is witnessing dictatorship. and declining progress in all spheres of life

According to him, “All of us here have won elections, and we have structures for Murtala Ajaka to win. The reason we want him to win is that the legislative arm has been abused to the point that it is nonexistent in Kogi State, the local governments have been totally submerged, and the judiciary arm has been twisted. We have a full dictatorship in place. The reason we are here is to join hands with him, grease our structures in his favour, and throw away the dictator.”

The Forum declared that it would not allow Governor Yahaya Bello’s dictatorship to continue through the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Ahmed Ododo and promised to ensure electoral victory at Alhaji Muritala Ajaka at the poll based on track records of achievements in their various local governments.

They said that Bello’s APC-led regime in the state brought a whole lot of sorrow, pain, hunger, and starvation across the land, leaving the people crying for divine intervention, emancipation, and change.

With the coming of a kindhearted and vibrant man like Alhaji Ajaka, if elected, the unpleasant memories would be completely erased.

“In the ensuing confusion and palpable fears thrown upon the state and the people, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka emerged like the Biblical David.

“With the courage of a lion and the resolve of a heart to salvage his people, he is undaunted and ever-focused on the future of our dear Kogi State. This is the resolve we all share by transforming the idea into a movement called “MURI MOVEMENT.”

“This movement is an idea whose time has come. It is unstoppable, leading to Luggard House.

The forum gave reasons why the members are throwing their weight behind the candidature of Ajaka.

“Our decision to identify with your aspiration and candidature is informed by several obvious facts.

“We unanimously believe that you have the capacity, tenacity, and courage to salvage the state from the maladministration and misrule of the current regime and reposition the state to its envious pride of place among the communities of other states in the Federation.

According to Atadoga, the SDP candidate is informed of the need to reposition the state. “We believe in your capacity to right the wrongs done to the state and the people these past eight years by providing pro-people administration and government and wiping away the flowing tears from the eyes of the majority of Kogites.

“We believe you have the capacity to redeem the state and the people from squalor and make us proud again.

“These and many more, we believe, can be achieved by engaging in noble objectives and giving your experience and track record of excellence.

“The Forum of former House of Assembly members from across the three senatorial districts of the state has not only endorsed your candidature but has resolved to take the task, including the campaign, to our various constituents across the state to ensure a landslide victory. And we are confident our mission will be accomplished with songs of victory.

The Forum further added that the people of Kogi State are yearning for your coming. That has been loudly demonstrated in their reception and acceptance of your candidature. All we are waiting for is the day of the election, November 11, 2023, to translate these warm acceptances into ballot boxes. And the day will come with jubilation.

“We implore you to remain dogged like you have ever been. The storm will be over. We are proud of your resilience and tenacity. You have, by so doing, exemplified a rare leadership quality and inspired many, of which we are glad to be a part

“Looking back, we assure you we are with you and shall remain with you until your victory—our victory is announced. May the good Lord see us through in the remaining days ahead.” He affirmed.
