Kogi govt approves over N155bn for 2022 fiscal year

Kogi State Government has approved the sum of N155 billion naira for the 2022 fiscal year.

This was part of the decision taken at the end of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Yahaya Bello at Government House, Lokoja.

The Commissioner of Finance and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Idris Asiru said the proposed budget tagged “Budget of Accelerated Result” is to be sent to the State House of Assembly for consideration soon.

Ashiru Idris noted that approval was also granted for the engagement of a consultant to coordinate and manage the Alape Staple Processing Zone.

Meanwhile, in a bid to diversify the state economy, Kogi State Government is to acquire a license to ensure a level of control of its solid minerals.

The Commissioner of Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo told newsmen after the council meeting that the move was aimed at strengthening the sector to provide employment and improve revenue generation.

Fanwo said the State Executive Council approved a contract for the construction of offices and residential quarters for the Mobile Police Squadron Unit in Okene Local Government to boost security and serve as an incentive to the personnel.

He said Governor Yahaya Bello assured the people of Government resolve to provide adequate security of lives and property.

On the Ganaja flyover, the Commissioner said additional work had been assigned to the contractor handling the project to make it the strongest and best flyover in the country.

According to Fanwo, Government is to provide necessary logistics for the State Primary Insurance Agency with a view to strengthening the Agency to provide healthcare services for the people.

The Commissioner said the approval was also granted for the procurement and installation of 461 units of integrated solar-powered streetlights in Lokoja township.

He noted that previous ones had been vandalized stressing the need for the people to take ownership of government installations and protect them.
