Kogi gov announces free healthcare intervention

Published by

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, is set to launch a major healthcare initiative aimed at providing free medical services across the state.

Governor Ododo revealed the plan on Monday during a meeting with members of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and other healthcare professionals at the Government House in Lokoja.

This meeting followed a successful 3-day medical outreach conducted by the NMA in the state.

In his address, Governor Ododo expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals for their contributions and reiterated his commitment to prioritising healthcare in the state.

He emphasised that this free medical outreach aligns with his campaign promise to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to the people of Kogi State.

Governor Ododo stated, “A healthy society is a wealthy society. I will continue to support you in this exercise and ensure it reaches every part of the state.

“Count on my support as we make this free medical outreach a flagship programme in our medical activities calendar, aiming to make healthcare more accessible and affordable.”

He also urged medical practitioners in the state to continue their support for the administration and collaborate with the state’s Ministry of Health to expand their efforts.

Dr Abdulazeez Adams, the State Commissioner for Health, praised the medical team for the success of the outreach, describing it as a testament to the dedication of healthcare professionals in Kogi State.

He also commended Governor Ododo for his support of healthcare workers and his efforts to create an enabling environment for their work.

Dr. David Aimila, Chairman of the Committee of Past Chairmen of the NMA in Kogi State, lauded the free medical outreach as a significant intervention, providing extensive medical services in a supportive environment facilitated by the state government. He praised Governor Ododo for his prioritisation of the health sector.

Professor Solomon Avidime, Chief Medical Director of Reference Hospital Okene and host of the medical team, applauded the governor for the administration’s health-friendly stance.

He emphasised that the outreach complements the state government’s free health insurance policy, addressing gaps in healthcare coverage and enhancing service delivery across Kogi State.
