Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, has urged governments at all levels to accord priority to the security of life and property of the citizenry.
Onuoha made the call on Wednesday in his office while receiving officials of the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He said the current security challenge facing the nation demanded more attention, stressing that more funding was required to create better working conditions for the police.
According to him, the major challenges confronting the police were those of logistics, communication, and information gathering.
The CP described the role of the media as crucial, especially in correcting societal ills, noting that the police in the state will sustain their efforts at bringing crimes to a minimal level.
The Police Commissioner pledged an improved partnership with the NUJ and urged the new leadership to see their position as an opportunity to contribute to the growth of society.
Earlier, the State Chairman of NUJ, Alhaji Seidu Ademu, said the visit was to familiarise himself with the police commissioner, saying that the need for synergy among the two cannot be overemphasised.
Alhaji Seidu commended the police for its fight against crimes but called for strategic efforts to curb kidnapping and other crimes in the state.
The NUJ Chairman assured that the partnership with the police would be improved upon, adding that there was no alternative to peace and security of lives and property.
