Kogi commences, secondary schools, grassroots sports competition

The Kogi State government on Tuesday said it would commence an all secondary schools sports competition across the 21 local government areas of the state.

Apart from this, government also said arrangements had been concluded to start the Kogi State Grassroots Sports scout for talents that are hidden in the state.

The state commissioner for youth development and sports, Arome Adoji, who disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja, the state capital, said memo to that effect had been submitted to the state executive council.

According to him, the move was aimed at discovering young stars and also to further develop talents in the state.

He said the present administration had commenced the development of sports facilities in the Lokoja Confluence Stadium to ensure that they conform with acceptable standard.

The commissioner added that some of the sporting events like the volleyball, basketball that were not located within the stadium would be moved to the complex to aid the development of such games.

He said moving the sporting activities that are presently scattered in the town into the stadium would not only develop such games, but also contribute to the economic development of the state.
