King Tea chronicles journey from artiste manager to industry mogul

Emmanuel Babatunde, widely known as King Tea, has opened up about how he carved a unique path in both music and business realms, blending his entrepreneurial spirit with a keen eye for talent.

King Tea who is based in the US said his journey began in 2011 when he founded Tea Music World, a record label that would go on to shape the careers of rising stars in the Nigerian music industry.

Under his leadership, Tea Music World became a powerhouse in the Nigerian music scene, propelling artists like Lyta, Fireboy DML, Danny S, MartinsFeez, and IBNL to stardom.

With a knack for recognising and nurturing talents, King Tea solidified his reputation as a tastemaker in the industry.

“In 2015, my journey took me across continents as I relocated to the United States.”

Undeterred by the unfamiliar territory, he wasted no time in diversifying his business interests. Venturing into sectors beyond music, he established Kings and Queens Furniture, catering to the growing demand for quality home furnishings.

But his entrepreneurial spirit knew no bounds. Seeking new challenges and opportunities, he delved into logistics management, further expanding his business portfolio.

“Relocating to the US was a bold move, but I saw it as a chance to expand my horizons and explore new opportunities. Diversifying into different sectors allowed me to challenge myself and grow as an entrepreneur.”

In the midst of global uncertainty during the pandemic-stricken year of 2020, he embarked on yet another venture: ‘Talks With King Tea.’

This live talk show provided a platform for thought-provoking conversations with influential guests, ranging from his father Soji Taiwo to prominent figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry like Kolawole Ajeyemi, Kunle Afod, and Kemi Akorede.

In his words, he said he wants to serve as an inspiration to aspiring creatives and business owners alike, demonstrating the power of passion, perseverance, and innovation.
