King Salman of Saudi Arabia donates food to less privileged in Kebbi

Authorities of the King Salman Humanitarian Relief Centre in faraway Saudi Arabia on Wednesday brought succour to the less privileged ones in Kebbi State as the organisation presented thousands of varieties of food items to them and the vulnerable ones.

The Saudi organisation, which presented the food items through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Nigeria, presided over the distribution by the Director General, Zubaida Umar, represented by the Director of Special Duties in the Ministry, Hajia Fatima Quaseem.

In his speech at the ceremony, the State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasiru Idris, who was represented by his Deputy, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, extended the gratitude of the government and people of Kebbi to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“The administration is deeply grateful for the support of the Kingdom to the people of Kebbi. This is not the first time the Kingdom is coming to our aid, and we appreciate the good relationship between us, especially regarding Hajj matters.”

“Kebbi is thankful for the intervention of the King Salman Humanitarian & Relief Centre, for bringing succour to our people. We also appreciate the Federal Government and NEMA for their sustained support to victims of floods and other disasters in Kebbi. The administration of Governor Nasir Idris remains dedicated to uplifting the welfare of our people.”

The Director General of NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, represented by the Director of Special Duties, Hajiya Fatima Qassim, said the food items distributed through the agency are aimed at easing the hardships faced by those affected by natural and human-induced disasters.

“The King Salman Centre has entrusted NEMA with the distribution of food baskets for the vulnerable since 2018. This current donation targets Kebbi and Adamawa states, with 2,450 food baskets allocated to Kebbi beneficiaries as identified and profiled by NEMA in collaboration with SEMA,” she said.

She highlighted the significance of the distribution ahead of the Ramadan fasting period, praising Saudi Arabia for demonstrating friendship and brotherhood to Nigerians.

Hajiya Zubaida also commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its commitment to addressing the needs of disaster victims, while thanking Kebbi State for partnering with NEMA’s Sokoto office to ensure effective service delivery.
