THE Ondo State Commissioner for Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju, said
Speaking during a Press conference, Adeyanju disclosed that detectives from the command were able to secure freedom for three victims in the den of the kidnappers after a raid at their camp.
The victims which included, an 18-year-old student of a private university in Lagos, Timilehin Komolafe, Henry Usifo and Micheal Popoola, who were traveling to Lagos to attend a burial before their abduction, were also rescued by the police from the command.
According to the police commissioner, Timilehin was traveling with his father to his school in Lagos before they ran into the hoodlums who stopped his father on the highway.
He said the hoodlums shot at the car, killing the father of the young boy on the spot and took Timilehin as a hostage and two other people from a commercial bus heading towards Lagos.
He, however, commended the local hunters on the highway for collaborating with his men to rescue the three victims in the custody of the kidnappers.
The police boss explained that the kidnappers engaged the police in a gun duel and said one of the kidnappers escaped with the gunshot while others fled the camp but said his men were on their trail and will be brought to book soon.
He attributed the feat recorded on the discovery of the kidnapper’s den in the area to the logistic support provided by the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu.
According to him, the local hunters used the motorcycles donated by the governor to traced the hoodlums in the bush saying the governor has always been showing his readiness to collaborate with the security agencies in the state to combat crime.
However, the state governor, Akeredolu, commended the state police command for rescuing the three victims kidnapped on Friday afternoon on the popular Ore-Lagos Expressway.
Akeredolu also commended the local hunters along the communities on the expressway and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), for collaborating with the police to rescue the victims.
The governor said he was particularly happy that the police rescued the victims unhurt and without any ransom paid.
He said the collaboration provided the intelligence and the information which aided the state police command to mobilise its personnel to the kidnappers’ hideout.
The governor, who described the collaboration between the police and the local hunters as a beautiful example of synergy for peaceful and crime-free society, promised to continue to provide necessary infrastructure and support for security agencies in the state for effective service delivery.
Akeredolu urged the people of the state to emulate the local hunters by volunteering information on suspicious movements and characters so as to make the state uncomfortable for unscrupulous elements.
