Two sand dredgers have been abducted by suspected kidnappers in the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State.
One other worker was hit by stray bullets from the rampaging gunmen, who reportedly shot sporadically.
Meanwhile more policemen and soldiers have been deployed to lIgbodu and communities in the EOE Farm Settlement.
It was gathered that a gang of gunmen had early Wednesday invaded Ibeju Lekki, where they went away with two of the dredgers in a speedboat.
The abducted persons were identified as the company manger and the machine operator, while other staff member of the company escaped.
A resident of the community, who pleaded anonymity said “we were in our various houses when we heard the gunshot. After the dust had settled, we went to the scene of the incident. Unfortunately we found one of the workers in the pool of his blood.”
He added that “We rescued the victim and took him to a private clinic in the community for treatment and then reported the matter to Akodo Police division.”
The resident also stated that “it was when we got to the clinic that we knew it was kidnapper who invaded the dredging site. We are calling on government and the security agencies to come to our aids.”
Meanwhile, a farm manager in one of the farms in Igbodu has told the Metro that more policemen and soldiers had been drafted to the area.
“There are some of our crops that if we do not wet them a day, they would perish and some of our livestock would also die.”
He added that “The army and police were assisting us by giving us cover to wet our farms and livestock. Adding ‘some of the farm workers who escaped are in the hospital receiving treatment.”
Efforts to get the reaction of the image maker in charge of the state police command, Dolapo Badmos failed as calls to her mobile phone lines were not answered.
